Our town of Leavenworth, Washington is an amazing place to spend the winter holidays! Our picturesque views, great restaurants and bars, and wintry weather make for the perfect backdrop for all of your favourite future holiday memories. This year, join us for the holidays in Leavenworth and check out some of our favourite Christmas traditions below:
Nutcracker Hunts at the Nutcracker Museum
Everyone knows the famous holiday tale of The Nutcracker, but did you know that Leavenworth has its very own Nutcracker Museum? That’s right! The Nutcracker Museum showcases beautiful traditional nutcrackers, each a unique work of art! Christmas is the perfect time to visit the museum and participate in one of its classic Nutcracker Hunts! Everyone from toddlers to seniors can receive a list tailored to their age group and begin to hunt down the Nutcrackers named on their papers around the museum. You’re sure to discover ones you wouldn’t have otherwise noticed!
Leavenworth Village of Lights & Christmas Lighting Festival
What could be cozier than a small town covered in snow? Why, a small town covered in snow and Christmas lights, of course! The holiday lights are on in Leavenworth from Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day weekend, and there are plenty of great events to go along.
On December weekends leading up to Christmas
, the twinkling Christmas lights in Leavenworth will be a backdrop to live musical performances of your favourite Christmas songs. On Fridays at 4:30 pm, Santa Claus will greet all the little boys and girls at the Front Street Gazebo. On Saturdays and Sundays, Santa and other costumed holiday characters will kick off the party at 12 pm by marching from the Festhalle to the Gazebo. Following this, there will be musical performances featuring singers, choirs, and bands, plus lots of carolers and costumed characters milling about.
Grab some roasted chestnuts and a cup of hot spiced wine or cocoa, and then return with the kids on Sunday for the free Cookie Crawl. The lighting ceremony starts at 4:45 pm each Sunday when the village is lit with over half a million lights.
This year, you can spend Christmas in what feels like a snow globe come to life! Visit Leavenworth for the perfect experience of snowy, cozy Christmas fun and lots of beautiful twinkling lights. Planning on also hitting the slopes during your Christmas getaway? Check out our
